- Ric and Kelvin avoided being in the middle of the infamous Poll Tax riots by a couple of minutes. They had moved right to the front of the march because they needed to leave quickly to pick up Kelvin’s laundry.
- Nearly all the songs on Stony Love come from dreams. For a year or so, Ric wrote down his dreams as soon as he woke up. This is why he lived on his own for so long.
- Ric’s LEAST favourite SRF track is ‘Waste of Time’ off ‘None More Black’. “A pointless rant, badly recorded. Even the bassline was nicked - from ‘Jeepster’. Absolute junk. Sorry, everyone”. Marianne, on the other hand, is less than happy about ‘Hole in the Ground’ off ‘Patsy’. “Cover versions of cool songs are ok, but that’s by Bernard Cribbins!!! Needless to say, I wasn’t in the group then…”
- Marianne was the first person, other than than Ric, to actually play on an SRF album. She’s played live as well, something he is apparently incapable of doing, the wuss.
- In November 1998, most of the group’s guitars were stolen. If a dodgy character offers you a Jetglo 1988 Ricky 330 or a nice red Telecaster, SRF would like to know…
- Marianne has been to university and got degrees and that, while Ric is a right thicky. Don’t ask him anything - he won’t know the answer!
- The drunks at the beginning of ‘Home Sweet Home’ off ‘Gormless’ were recorded by Ric one midnight, from the balcony of his old flat. He lay on the ground so as not to be seen, and thus avoided getting a good kicking.
- Ric had never played a bass in his life before the first tape. Which sort of explains the bass playing…
- The ‘2109’ bit of SRF-2109 comes from an apparently true story where messages were left on a computer screen in a haunted house by firstly a man who was alive in the 16th century, and also by some other people who said it was the year 2109. They thought the guy with the computer was a ghost… (eeek!)
- Phobias? Marianne: spiders. Ric: Heights and jellyfish. SRF being chased by giant spiders to the edge of a cliff overlooking a jellyfish-infested sea is right out. They wouldn’t like that at all!
- Kelvin was a member of the Gang of Four for four days.
- Both members of SRF follow a strict vegan diet. Both say they’ve never felt better. They say lots of other things too, of course!
- Marianne at first thought the group was called ‘Electric Puffin’. Ric resolved to try and mumble a bit less, rather than change the name to that.
- Ric has been sick of the name ‘Some Rare Footage’ since about 1988. Others keep persuading him to keep it. “If people ask me the name of the group, they never hear it properly first time. “Somewhere What?” they say. So now I just go “Oh,you won’t have heard of us””.
- An early review had SRF as being “obviously influenced by” Augustus Pablo. Having never heard anything by Mr Pablo at that point, they tracked down some of his records. He has influenced them quite a lot since… Perhaps it’s a good job the reviewer didn’t mention the Tremeloes…or Ray Stevens…
